Student's Making a Difference

Campbell Christian students voluntarily participate in Second Harvest Food Bank collections monthly during the academic school year.  The food donations are used to feed those Santa Clara County families who need assistance.

During the months of October and November of each year the student body voluntarily participates in Operation Christmas Child, an outreach to youth in various poor nations throughout the world.  Students and their families purchase toys, candy, classroom materials, and toiletries, and place them in a shoe box. During the months of November and December the student body voluntarily participates in Christmas Cheer.  Christmas Cheer is a program run by our church, the Campbell Church of Christ.  Christmas Cheer is an outreach program to those individuals in the Silicon Valley who do not have the resources for Christmas gifts and meals.  Families take a gift tag(s) identifying a gender and age of a recipient.  Families then go out, purchase a gift, attach the tag to the gift, and drop it off at the school office.  Additionally, food donations are collected so that a family of four can be fed on Christmas day.  During a Sunday in December, a group of volunteers get together, wrap the items, prepare the food, and deliver it to various families in the area.

Once or twice a year our fifth grade classes go to Vasona Park in Los Gatos on a cleanup mission.  This event teaches our students about public service and our national parks. 

The school teams up with our church, the Campbell Church of Christ, in support of the Made in the Streets Ministry.  Garry Bortz, our children’s minister, has done great work with this ministry throughout the years.  This ministry, located in Nairobi, Kenya, takes in young, abandoned children who live on the streets.  They feed, care, provide Bible instruction, and educate the children so that upon graduation the students will be trained and employable.  This is a wonderful ministry that serves children in need, and our students get excited to help.  Past fundraising projects by the church and school helped to purchase school desks, supplies, playground equipment, and farm animals for the ministry.

The student body sponsors two children in other countries through Compassion International.  Currently, our school supports one boy, from Kenya, and one girl, from Thailand.  Compassion International uses our donations to provide food, water, Bible study, health care, and education to the two children.  Students write to these two children, and the children write back updating us on their growth and development.
