CCS Elementary School Overview
Campbell Christian Schools is governed by a Board of Directors under the oversight of the elders of the Campbell Church of Christ, an independent non-denominational church that is committed to "a non-sectarian concept of God, total dependence on God and His grace, a truth-seeking spirit of open inquiry, a Christ-centered daily life, and a spirit of radiant love for all men, women, and children."
Campbell Christian School commits to educational excellence in conjunction with biblical values. In the spiritual area, we desire that each child develop a Christian world-view, a love for God and a greater understanding of His attributes as God develops faith in them. In the socio-emotional area, it is the goal of the school to develop a child who realizes who he is and how he relates to authority, family, and peers. In the intellectual area, our philosophy emphasizes an active learning environment where each child is challenged and an enthusiasm for learning is developed. In the physical area, we are committed to teaching skills and teamwork as well as healthy care and appreciation of their bodies.

Academics
Bible: Daily Bible study, devotionals and weekly chapels are designed to help students develop a Christian world view and a love for God with a greater understanding of His attributes as God develops faith in them.
Reading: CCS believes that our primary academic instructional responsibility is the task of teaching each child to read. Research, experience and common sense tell us that children learn to read more effectively when they first learn the relationship between letters and sounds. This is known as phonics. We employ an intense, systematic phonics program for kindergarten, first, and second grade that consists of continuous review and incremental development.
Language Arts: The language arts–listening, speaking, reading, and writing–impact every aspect of our lives. Our curriculum integrates these four components since they flow naturally from one to another. Each grade level contains a readiness unit that introduces or reviews the writing process, basic listening, speaking and thinking strategies, and fine motor skills.
Mathematics: The two most important aspects of our mathematics program are the incremental development of mathematics and continuous practice. We believe the most effective way to teach mathematics is to use repetition extended over a considerable period of time.
Science: Our goal is to give students a first-hand knowledge of life, earth, and physical science from a clear Christian perspective. We attempt to help children understand that science is a way of thinking–a method of thought–which applies not only to explorations of the physical universe but to all other realms of intellectual inquiry.
Social Studies: Social studies should introduce children to their world–its past and present. Key components include civic, historical, and geographic literacy. |
Enrichment Classes
Computers: Computers are viewed as useful tools in helping CCS teach core subjects and familiarize students in the various uses of computer technology. Computer instruction includes the use of specific subject instructional software, educational games, word-processing, and instruction in how computers work and their real-world applications. CCS purchased 25 Notebook Computers in June 2000 in order to accentuate instruction in the core curriculum areas. All Internet connections are filtered for objectionable content.
Library: CCS maintains extensive volumes for elementary school readers. We also have a large selection of children's periodicals.
The Arts: Music, Art, Drama, and Dance are given on a weekly basis at all grade levels. All students participate in chapel programs and drama and musical productions. All basic elements of Art are taught according to california standards.
Physical Education: CCS has a comprehensive physical education program that is designed to help provide students with the knowledge, habits, and attitudes that will equip them for a fit and healthy life. Health and nutrition education is included with fitness and movement activities and instruction in sport skills.
Field Trips: Some of our field trips include:
5th grade - overnight science camp to Hume Lake, Daybreak Camp Boardwalk
4th grade - 49er Social Science Camp, Sacramento Train Capital Tour Trip
3rd grade - Monterey Bay Aquarium, San Francisco Zoo
2nd grade - Youth Science Institute, Exploratorium, Happy Hollow

Extended Care
CCS is committed to families needing after school care. Extended child-care in a safe and nurturing environment is provided before and after school. Care is limited to CCS students. Students are given a 40 minute break directly after school. After their break students are allotted an hour long study session to complete homework assignments. For the rest of the period students are given free time in our fellowship hall loaded with arts, crafts, games, books and toys. Extended care is open mornings at 7:00 and operates until school begins. In addition, extended care is available afternoons from 2:30 until 6:00. Please make sure you fill out an Extended Care Contract Form to enroll your student in the program. We offer 15 different programs to fit most schedules. In addition, students can be assigned extended care at a drop-in rate when needed. |
Summer Program
CCS operates a ten-week summer program. The program is directed by faculty members who are assisted by college interns from across the United States. An academic component is combined with a variety of activities which include swimming, outdoor activities, field trips on most Mondays, and service projects. It is the goal of the summer program to integrate an academic review component to assist in maintaining current grade equivalency during the summer months.
Part of the summer program includes field trips to both fun and educational destinations. Past field trip destinations include: Monterey Bay Aquarium, Great America, The Exploratorium, The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Raging Waters, and the San Jose Tech Musiem. Please contact the school office at (408) 370-4900 ext. 221 for future schedules and trips. |
Chapel Programs
CCS holds chapel every Tuesday from 8:10 AM to 8:40 AM. We encourage all parents to visit. Furthermore, chapel is a wonderful time to visit our school and see our students in action. Please call the school office at (408) 370-4900 ext. 221 to schedule an appointment to visit chapel and the classrooms.
